Baston Big Lake is a special place with a special stock of carp! It feels bigger than its 20 acres, probably because it’s set out in the fens where the winds are savage from any direction! Tough on the bivvy, but great for fish growth!

This lake has literally everything an angler could want; islands, humps, bars, gravel, clay, silt, weed, long range work, short range stuff and lots of mega spots in between.

Many areas of the lake used to be full of trees and resemble an underwater forest, but after a mammoth effort from many of the Embryo team draining the lake and removing every last twig, the entire lake is fishable and the fish have nowhere to hide, except in the thick weed beds that can appear in the summer!

Not only is it a mega lake but it is stocked with the most incredible array of awesome carp. The opening stock of 110 fish were a mix of big’uns from the Cottisford syndicate in Oxford and the very best from one of our most respected fish suppliers; Priory Fisheries down in the south west.

They were fed for a year before we opened so mid-thirties went to mid-forties, surprising the Embryo team as well as the lucky members who caught them. Several smaller scale stockings from the stock lakes on site in the last couple of years has ensured the future of the lake looks very bright indeed! The variety is ridiculous with every colour, shape and scale pattern you could wish for, with the lake record currently standing at a whopping 58lb 8oz!

It’s already a community of proper nice blokes. They’ve all been around the block and so know the crack. They all put a lot into their angling but not at the expense of others so the atmosphere is unrivalled.
