Embryo 2018 Calendar out now!

Posted By - Embryo Angling

If you have yet to get your hands on a copy of the superb Embryo Angling Habitats 2018 calendar then you are missing out, as it is full of stunning photos alongside advice from some of the biggest names in carp fishing!

But it isn’t too late, as there are still some available, and not only will it look great hanging on your wall, or as a Christmas present, but you will also be doing your bit to help protect the stocks of some fisheries from predation.

The 2017 Embryo calendar raised nearly £19,000, and that went towards paying for fencing around lakes where the fishing clubs or owners were unable to afford it, thus protecting their stocks for the future.

For 2018 we decided to do things slightly differently, but still with £7 from the sale of every single calendar going towards fencing, and rather than filling it with images taken by those who work for or are sponsored by Korda, we decided to give everyone the chance to contribute and to see their images in print.

We were amazed not only by the number of entries that we received, but also the incredibly high quality of many of them, which made the job of the judges very difficult when they had to choose just twelve of them to feature within the calendar – although we have also been running some of the other highly commended ones across our social media platforms recently!

Not only was there an incentive for people to see their images in print, but there was an added incentive of an amazing prize bundle to be one for each of the twelve successful entrants.

Each of our 12 winners has landed themselves a week fishing at Gigantica, in France, worth over £600; a year membership of an Embryo Angling water, worth £250; plus £250 worth of Korda tackle, £250 worth of Mainline bait; along with a framed copy of their winning entry!

As well as featuring some amazing images alongside everything you would expect to find in any calendar, this one also has special fishing-related information, such as the moon phases, and advice from top anglers.

Korda boss Danny Fairbrass, who founded Embryo Angling as a way to put something back into fishing, enthused: “I am extremely proud to present to you the 2018 calendar, and you, the angling community, purchased 2,700 of the 3,000 that we printed for 2017.

“Because no one took a profit from the sale, including the tackle shops, it created £18,900 of revenue that will be spent on two fences for lakes that simply could not afford it from their own reserves.

“Abingdon and Oxford Anglers Alliance’s Dorchester Lake had sadly lost several of its most sought after specimens to otter predation prior to our offer for fencing, and an extended planning issue delayed the installation, but it is now set to be completed by the spring of 2018, so its remaining jewels will be safe forever. Embryo also donated five special Priory Fisheries mid-doubles to the venue to help rebuild its stock. The second venue is Colchester Angling Preservation Society’s Bovington Lakes, as it is a hugely worthy club which provides a wide range of open access fishing for a large membership.

“I have always been inspired by the amazing angling photography on Instagram, so it felt fitting to invite budding photographers from all over the globe to submit their best shots for 2018. We had well over 5,000 entries, and choosing the final twelve was nigh on impossible because there were so many spell-binding images.

“Thanks to all who entered, the overwhelming response has cemented this calendar as an annual event, which is set to hopefully become a carp angling institution that keeps doing good year after year!”
